I emailed Randy Caparoso, Wine journalist (SOMM Journal, The Tasting Panel) on what he was tasting now. He came back with Oak Farm, McCay Cellars and Harney Lane. First stop was Harney Lane, I’ve had their Albarino in the past, but curious to taste a wider range of their wines. We tasted the 2014 Chardonnay, 2015 Albarino, 2013 Tempranillo, 2012 & 2013 Zinfandel. The tempranillo is a fantastic wine, tobacco and plum and a lasting finish.
Our next stop was the very cool tasting room (airplane fanatics theme) of McCay Cellars. Tasted their 2014 Viognier, 2013 Cab Franc, a library of Zinfandels, including the 2011 Contention Zinfandel. Their kindness continued with a barrel sample of 2014 Tempranillo.
The last suggested vineyard, Oak Farm Vineyards. We tasted Albarino, Cortese, Chardonnay, Sangiovese and Merlot. Their tasting room manager, Keith Baker, suggested that we need to go visit one more today, Acquiesce Winery, a white-only producer focused on the Rhone Valley varietals. Good call there, as their Viognier, Rousanne, Grenache Blanc and blended wines were fantastic.
